Gurney House of Vision is a locally owned and operated business in Prince George. William Gurney founded Gurney Optical in 1968 and has been serving Prince George and area for over 40 years with quality products and service.
William had always had an eye for quality, and worked to bring the latest in eyewear styles and lenses to his customers. In 1993, Yvonne Ryder joined William. After being mentored and taught for 16 years made the decision to purchase.

In the Community
Gurney House of Vision believes in building a strong community through helping others.
We are happy to often donate our services to the Hospice House, local seniors homes and to the hospital to help those who are unable to make it in for adjustments or minor repairs.
Other cause we believe in and contribute to are ‘The Canadian Cancer Society‘ and ‘Rainbow’s’.
Gurney House of Vision strives to continue to grow their knowledge to better support their community…
• In 2011 traveled with the third world eye care society for a week long clinic to supply eyewear to those in need.

Yvonne Ryder
Owner/Operator | Licensed optician
Yvonne was born and raised in Prince George and is proud to call it home!
Yvonne always wanted a career that would help others and make a difference in their lives, so it’s no surprise she plays such a huge role in making people of all ages look and feel amazing.
After graduating school with honours in 1995, Yvonne continued to grow and expand her knowledge in the field. Over 27 years the industry, she still strongly believes in always learning and continuing education to better serve her clients. In 2009, she became the new owner of Gurney House of Vision. Yvonne strives to bring in unique and exclusive product and a personalized customer care experience.
Yvonne mostly enjoys spending time with her family, friends and walking her dog. She loves to be outdoors; whether it be hiking, fishing, snorkling or travelling to unique destinations and exploring different culture and scenery. Bringing a taste of her travels back with her to inspire her when selecting new brands and designers for the store.
In May 2010, Yvonne completed the Expert Vision System quality assurance program by Carl Zeiss. She is an authorized and certified Zeiss Vision Expert who never compromises vision.

Catherine Lortie
Manager | Licensed optician
Growing up in and around the optical industry, Cathy is a very well rounded Optician. It makes her very happy to be a part of helping others improve their quality of life through their vision.
Cathy is always a joy to be around and is very passionate about her work. She will go above and beyond to provide the utmost in customer care for each individual client… even if it’s a never-ending search for the ‘perfect’ lens and frame combination.
She has been an important part of Gurney House of Vision since 2009, when Yvonne purchased the store.
Outside of work, Cathy loves spending time with her family. When the seasons allow, camping and quading and spending time outdoors are a favourite pastime. Cathy is also a very gifted photographer and has been working hard over the past few years with amazing results!

Dr. Katherine Chermesnok
Optometrist
Dr. Chermesnok was raised in the small community of Fraser Lake, British Columbia. In 2008 she graduated from the University of Northern British Columbia and was awarded a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and molecular biology. Furthering her education in 2013, she was awarded a Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Waterloo. She as since practiced optometry in both Newfoundland and Ontario. Currently she practices within and operates College Heights Optometry in Prince George.
In her spare time she enjoys the outdoors, travelling and spending time with her family.
Dr. Minhas
Optometrist
Born and raised in Prince George, Dr. Minhas enjoys spending time with family and friends, going for runs, and watching movies. He is an alumnus of Prince Georges’ UNBC having earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and molecular biology. Dr. Minhas graduated with honours from Pacific University College of Optometry and has experience from Veterans Affairs Medical Centre, and in the Co-management Centre and Private Practice settings. Dr. Minhas is excited to practice optometry for Prince George and the surrounding regions to help serve your ocular health needs!
